Basic Definition of Education

Basically the real meaning of education is the process of becoming an educated person. It means the delivery of skills, knowledge and information from the teachers to the students. Education is a systematic process through which people acquires knowledge, experience and skills. Everyone gives importance to education because it is a cure for all evils. It is the main key to solve the various problems of life.Education has been described as a process of waking up to life. Education in the broadest sense of the term is meant to aid the human being in his/her pursuit of wholeness. Wholeness implies the harmonious development of all the potentials God has given to a human being. True education is the harmonious development of the physical, mental and moral life.

Etymological meaning of Education:

 


Etymologically, the word 'Education' has been derived from different Latin words. Latin word 'educare' which means 'to bring out' or 'to nourish', 'educere' which means 'to lead out' or 'to draw out', 'educatum' which means 'act of teaching' or 'training', 'educatus' which means 'to bring up, rear, educate', ‘ēducātiō’ which means "a breeding, a bringing up, a rearing". Also the Greek word 'pedagogy' is sometimes used for education.
